Eye department - Ophthalmology
What we do
The Ophthalmology service encompasses a wide range of conditions, including:
- Glaucoma
- Cataracts
- Medical Retina
- Corneal Conditions
- Ocular Plastics
- Ocular Motility
- Paediatrics
- Vitreo-Retinal
The service also has various research portfolios conducting investigations into eye health and eye related diseases.
York Ophthalmology department
The ophthalmology department in York is located at Junction 3 along the main corridor. If entering via the main entrance, make your way to the main corridor, turn left and immediately on your right is the entrance to the eye department.
Scarborough Ophthalmology department
The Scarborough ophthalmology department is located along the main corridor of the south wing of the hospital. If you enter the hospital through the main entrance in the south wing, head through the double doors on the right hand side, turn right down the main corridor and take the first right off the main corridor. At the end of the next corridor turn right again into Reception B waiting area.
Bridlington Ophthalmology department
The Bridlington ophthalmology department is located at Reception B next door to outpatients. On entering the hospital turn right down the corridor and signposted is the entrance to the eye department on the right hand side.
Malton Ophthalmology department
The Malton ophthalmology department is located at Ryedale wing. On entering the hospital turn right down the main corridor and signposted is the entrance to the eye department on the right hand side.

York Hospital eye clinic sight support service
Our Sight Support Service is run by Helen Flett, the Senior Eye Clinic Liaison Officer and is accessed by appointment only.
Helen can provide non-medical practical and emotional support for patients at York Hospital who are experiencing sight difficulties.
Appointments are available Monday to Friday - your clinician can refer you or you can ask at the Eye Clinic reception desk.
