Clinical IndicationLupus anticoagulant testing is used to help determine the cause of an unexplained thrombosis, recurrent foetal loss, or a prolonged aPTT test.

Minimum Volume2 x 3mL (adult) 2 x 1mL (paed) plus brown tube for ACA and B2Gly (Thrombophlia Screen requires:3 x 3mL (adult) 4 x 1mL (paed) and 1 x 0.5 - 1.0 mL brown serum for ACA & B2GLY (citrated plasma must be filled to bottle line)
Special PrecautionsCannot be perform if on DOAC's and Warfarin.

Turnaround TimeUrgent samples can be completed in 4 hours if requested via the haematology consultants. 3 - 6 weeks (routine)

LimitationsHaemolysis, gross lipaemia, high haematocrit may interfere with measurement. Over or under filled samples cannot be used due to ratio between blood and citrate
