Sexual Health Services (YorSexualHealth)
The Trust provides a range of sexual health services throughout York and North Yorkshire to men and women of all ages.
YorSexualHealth has clinics across the whole of York and North Yorkshire which offer a full range of sexual health and contraception services. This means you can get all your sexual health care provided in one place at one time. This includes tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV, a range of contraception choices, free condoms and advice.
Our services are confidential, free and friendly and are open to everyone. Our clinics offer appointment options to suit your personal needs. Please see the YorSexualHealth website for more details and information.
Virtual Testing - Postal Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
It is common for men and women to have infections without noticing any symptoms, so getting tested is the only way to know whether or not you have a STI. If you have noticed any symptoms or have had sex with someone who you know has a STI we advise you to attend one of our clinics for a check-up.
If you are under 25 it is recommended that you are tested for chlamydia annually or whenever you have a new sexual partner. Order your free YorSexualHealth chlamydia postal kit here. If you want to be checked for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis in one test you can order one here.
Your GP and Practice Nurse can also offer you a range of free and confidential sexual health care – contact your local practice to find out what is available. For information about sexual health services outside of North Yorkshire and York, please visit the NHS choices website.

You need to act quickly! This is available from YorSexualHealth services and GPs. If you are aged between 13 and 24 you can get the emergency contraceptive pill at some pharmacies in North Yorkshire free of charge. York Pharmacies are currently not providing free emergency contraception. If you are over 25 pharmacies will charge for emergency contraception, but it is available free of charge from any NHS provider. Some school and college nurse drop-in services also provide free emergency contraception.
Emergency HIV Treatment
Emergency treatment given within 72 hours of exposure may prevent infection. This is available from YorSexualHealth or your nearest A&E Dept. Call YorSexualHealth on 01904 721111 as soon as possible for advice.
Rape or Sexual Assault
If you have been raped, assaulted or abused - help is available. Bridge House is a Sexual Assault Referral Centre in North Yorkshire providing a dedicated service for men or women who have been raped or sexually assaulted recently or in the past.
You will be able to discuss your options and receive support. You can contact Bridge House via their website or by calling 01904 669339 where you can leave a message for a member of staff to call you back. You will not be pressured to reporting to the Police but can discuss with Bridge House staff the options available to you.
Child Sexual Assault Assessment Centre
The Child Sexual Assault Assessment Centre (CSAAC) provides a service for children and young people from 0-16 years of age who have disclosed sexual abuse or assault or where it is suspected that it may have happened.
When a child or young person comes to the Centre, they will come with either a social worker, or a specially trained police officer and one or both of their parents/carers.
The child or young person can talk to the nurse and the doctor about what has happened and they can have a check up (an examination) to check they are okay.
The service covers York and North Yorkshire and is located at York Hospital.
