HIV

YorSexual Health provides HIV care and wellbeing services in York and North Yorkshire.

HIV is now considered a long-term manageable illness.  This means we expect people with HIV to have a normal life expectancy, continue with their work and education, and have families should they wish to.

HIV treatment is highly effective in improving the quality of life of people living with HIV. Now, with U=U (undetectable = untransmittable), treatment is also an effective way of preventing the passing of HIV to sexual partners.

For more information, please visit the YorSexual Health HIV page.

Getting tested

The Trust runs local sexual health services across York and North Yorkshire.  If you're concerned about HIV you should contact your local sexual health clinic or GP practice as soon as possible. Early diagnosis of HIV can make a real difference.

Training for organisations

YorSexual Health offers training for organisations on HIV stigma and awareness.  Please email tr.yorsexualhealth-training@nhs.net with any training enquiries.

Help us keep everyone safe this winter

We’re asking everyone to please help protect our patients, visitors and employees during the winter months.

If you’re feeling unwell, please don’t visit our hospitals - even for appointments or to see loved ones, unless it’s in exceptional circumstances such as end-of-life care or maternity.

Colds, flu, Covid and norovirus (sickness and diarrhoea) can spread easily and cause serious illness in vulnerable patients.

Please only come in once you’ve been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours.

When you do visit:

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe this winter.
