Occupational therapist

An occupational therapist has professional skills in helping you manage any difficulties in your occupational performance i.e. the ability to organise and perform your daily routines and to fulfil life roles within your home and work environments. They can help you carry on with your daily activities despite your pain.

Following a detailed assessment, the occupational therapist will identify with you how pain is impacting on your daily life and what is of importance to you.

The occupational therapist can help you in the following ways:

  •  Advise on planning, prioritising and pacing your activities

  • Help you to develop a daily routine, using strategies to gradually increase your stamina and activity levels

  • Teach you relaxation techniques

  • Advise on changes to your sleep behaviours to improve your quality and sleep routine

  • Advise on assistive equipment, if needed

  • Discuss overcoming difficulties around employment
