Our services

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

The pelvic health physiotherapy team specialise in treating male and female patients presenting with pelvic floor dysfunction.   The team operate clinics at Malton, Scarborough, Selby and York hospitals and treat a wide variety of patients including those with:

  • Urinary incontinence (stress, urge and mixed incontinence)
  • Bowel incontinence
  • Constipation
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Dyspareunia
  • Pelvic pain
  • Post-natal perineal/pelvic floor problems including 3rd and 4th degree tears
  • Ante-natal and post-natal musculoskeletal dysfunction

Group sessions:

Ante-natal back/pelvic pain groups

The team runs an informative self-help advice and exercise session for pregnant patients to help them adjust to the changes in their body during pregnancy. This group typically precedes individual assessment and treatment and is effective for approximately 80% of women. These sessions are held at Scarborough and York Hospitals.

Post-operative gynaecological surgery groups

Following major gynaecological surgery, patients will be offered the opportunity to attend a post-operative advice and information group session between approximately 4 – 8 weeks post-surgery. These sessions are held at Scarborough and York Hospitals.


The team liaise with other healthcare professionals including consultants, midwives, continence advisors and other physiotherapists.

Treatment is always individualised and is in accordance with current guidelines from  the professional network group, Pelvic Obstetric Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP), NICE (http://www.nice.org.uk) and The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (www.csp.org.uk).

Coronavirus - useful information

From Monday 15 June 2020, visitors and outpatients coming into our hospitals will be asked to wear a face covering at all times, to help us reduce the spread of Covid-19.  A face covering can be as simple as a scarf or bandana that ties behind the head.  It should cover your mouth and nose while allowing you to breathe comfortably.  For more information click here.
