Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Our Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Team helps people with a range of pelvic health problems.

There are a number of ways to access the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy service.

Referral

You can be referred by your GP, consultant, or midwife.

Self-referral

If you are pregnant or have given birth in the last 18 months, you can self refer using the Local Maternity System Perinatal Pelvic Health Services website.

  • bladder leakage (incontinence)
  • bowel leakage
  • constipation
  • pelvic organ prolapse
  • pain during sex
  • general pelvic pain
  • pelvic floor problems after childbirth
  • back or pelvic pain during or after pregnancy
  • separation of stomach muscles (diastasis rectus abdominis) during or after pregnancy

The Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service can help you manage your symptoms in a number of ways.

Initially, you will be invited to a group session. This is to help reduce your wait time and provide information and advice as soon as possible.

Group advice sessions

These are one-off online or in-person sessions, run by specialist physiotherapists sharing useful tips and advice. You are welcome to keep your camera off during the online sessions if you'd prefer.

After attending this session, you will have open access for six months. This means that if your symptoms do not improve with the advice provided, you can book in for a one-to-one appointment with us during this time.

Telephone consultations

These take place during your initial and follow-up appointments.

Clinic appointments

These are face-to-face follow-ups that take place in a private room at York, Malton, or Selby hospitals. This appointment may include an examination if your symptoms are not improving.
