Radio Reps with York Hospital Radio
Self-help resources from the Department of Psychological Medicine.
Why self-help?
Many people are used to repeating exercises to build physical strength. In the same way, we can also learn skills to guide our mind. This can help us as we go through our lives, or when we face challenges.
This is where our Radio Reps come in. They are short, easy to repeat exercises to help us build these skills.
We broadcast these exercises, and the short pieces of theory linked to them, on York Hospital Radio. They go out on Saturday at 5.20pm, on Wednesdays after 8pm, and on Weekend Breakfast. You can also listen to or read them anytime on these web pages.
Who are Radio Reps for?
They are for all of us, whether patient, carer, loved one, friend, or Trust colleague.
If you are new to our self-help materials, please first listen to the introduction to Radio Reps video.
Please note that they are everyday self-help tips and techniques, a little like a user’s guide to the mind. They are not a therapy or a crisis service. We suggest a more focused approach to psychological support if:
- you are already experiencing significant distress that is affecting your life, or
- in the unlikely event that self-help leads to significant distress. You could talk about this with your GP. Details of NHS Talking Therapies and Mental Health services, including crisis services, can also be found on the NHS mental health services website.
How do I use these pages?
There are three ways to use these pages.
- You can see the full list of resources on the Radio Reps and resources page.
- You can use the buttons below to see information and exercises grouped into categories.
- You can follow one of our Rep Routes. A Rep Route is a suggestion of how you might use our self-help resources to help you find your way through a particular challenge in physical health.
Please remember to leave us feedback to help us develop our resources.
