Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU) - Gastroenterology

If you need to access PIFU

This information is for patients with ulcerative colitis that are eligible for the PIFU service.

If you experience a flare-up, please call the IBD helpline number below and explain to the team that you are experiencing a flare-up and you need to be seen.  York patients should call 01904 726154 and Scarbourgh patients should call 01723 236323.

The most common symptoms of a flare of ulcerative colitis are:

  • Loose or more frequent bowel movements (diarrhoea)
  • Bleeding from the back passage
  • Abdominal pain

The team will agree a suitable appointment date and time over the phone with you.

If you require urgent medical advice you should contact your GP or NHS 111, or if you are really unwell, your local emergency department (A&E). For all other concerns, or if you are feeling unwell, your GP remains your first point of contact.
