Laboratory Medicine

General Information / Where to find us

Access to the laboratories is restricted to authorised personnel only.  All visitors must report to the reception on arrival:

York Laboratory

The York laboratory is situated in the block to the right of the main hospital entrance, on the three floors above “Pharmacy” shown on the hospital plan below.  Access into the laboratory area is restricted (swipe card access only) and visitors are asked to report to the Ground Floor Reception.   Our address is:

Scarborough Laboratory

The Scarborough laboratory is situated adjacent to the A/E Department in a two storey, purpose built block shown as  point F on the hospital plan below.  There is limited parking in front of the Laboratory with access from the car park. There is a pay and display car park for visitors. From inside the hospital and the South and North entrances, follow the signs to Pathology. The Pathology office, stores, phlebotomy, blood sciences and blood transfusion are on the ground floor, microbiology is on the first floor. 

Access into the laboratory is restricted (electronically locked doors) and visitors are asked to report to the office reception

Laboratory Medicine is divided into the following specialist departments:

Biochemistry

The department operates from the second floor of the laboratory block on the York site and the ground floor of the laboratory block on the Scarborough site.

POCT

This department operates from the second floor of the Laboratory Medicine block on the York site. Within Scarborough the team can be found in the old doctors mess (Out of the north entrance, passed the renal/dialysis unit). The Bridlington POCT Office located on Lloyd ward

Blood Transfusion and Haematology

The departments operate from the second floor of the laboratory block on the York site and the ground floor of the laboratory block on the Scarborough site.

Cellular Pathology

The Histology department operates from the third floor of the Laboratory Medicine block on the York site. Diagnostic Cytology and Andrology operates from the first floor of the Laboratory Medicine block on the York site.

Microbiology

The department operates from the first floor of the laboratory blocks on the York and Scarborough sites.

Serology

This section of the Microbiology department operates from second floor of the York site.
