Ward 17

Ward 17 is the children's ward at York Hospital which accepts both booked and emergency admissions from the Emergency department and GPs.

The ward looks after children from birth through to 18 years. It has 25 beds and is open 24 hours, seven days a week. 

If your child is a patient on ward 17 and needs to stay overnight one parent is able to reside with them, sleeping on a bed beside your child.

There are parents facilities which include a coffee room and a shower room.

The ward is staffed by children's trained nurses and doctors . Each patient is seen on the ward round daily by the consultant - this starts at around 9.30am every day.

The ward has an experienced play team who help distract patients during procedures and provide activities and toys . If your child needs to have an operation they help to prepare them for this using age appropriate explanations.

There is a teenage room which has computers and games consoles where any patient over the age of 12 years can go to spend time with other young people.

Parents are welcome to stay with their child at all times visiting times for others is 3pm until 8pm.
